THE BINDI

The bindi is seen as an adornment and top indian wear accessory and by some, as a mark of a Hindu woman placed at the centre of the forehead by a dot or piece of jewellery.

Tradition meanings include:

  • A point of energy and concentration
  • A sign of intellect
  • Something different for each colour; as red is linked to marriage and prosperity and black symbolises loss
  • It is a mark of prayer
The bindi's meaning is not observed in today's fashion trends and has become a simple adornment.
