THE VEIL

Many religions use the veil as a sign of respect during religious ceremonies.

The Hijab is the veil which covers the head of a Muslim woman.  It is said to separate man from God.  The veil is a mark of virtue and modesty and its symbolism extends through all religions
Similarly, the dupatta is used within the hindu religion for similar purposes but has been used in urban fashion recently.

The video below shows just how to tie your hijab

And what about how to wear your dupatta?

MAKE UP FOR INDIAN WEAR

Dressing up in Indian Wear gives a woman an opportunity to go all out with jewellery, rich clothing and of course Make Up...

I thought the trick with tape in first this video would be useful for sharpness when applying makeup.

This second video shows you any easy way for a sometimes difficult look.

Does any one want to share some of their ideas and favourite looks?

HOW TO MEASURE YOUR SHALWAR KAMEEZ/KURTA SIZE?

INDIAN WEAR FOR LADIES AND MEN

CHEST MEASUREMENT:

Pass the tape around the fullest part of your chest.

WAIST:

Ladies don't suck in your stomach.  Breathe naturally and measure right around your waist.

HIP:

Measure the fullest part of your hips.

SHOULDER:

One apex of shoulder right across your neck to the other

SLEEVE:

Bend your elbows slightly and measure from where you ended at the apex and straight down to your desired sleeve length

 ARMHOLE:

Measure right around your elbow but bend and unbend the elbow passing the tape measure in a comfortable loop so that you are sure your garment can be slipped through the arm

WRIST:

Same as armhole

KAMEEZ OR KURTA LENGTH:

Measure from the apex of the shoulder straight down to the desired length

These measurements can be used as a guide for custom made outfits but can also help when selecting the ready made garments.  It should be noted that most of the pants for the Shalwar Kameez have draw strings and therefore fit in most cases but you should also check hip measurements to make sure.

The following charts might also prove useful for men:

HOW TO WEAR AN INDIAN SAREE/SARI?: HOW 2 WEAR INDIAN SAREE

The sari is a length of decorated material, usually silk or cotton, which is wrapped securely around the waist in a series of pleats. The remaining material is draped from the shoulder, where the end of the sari is heavily decorated. The material is draped against a fitted blouse which is designed in several different patterns and styles.

The video below gives a demonstration of how to tie a sari:

Do you know a different way?
